Sippy cup hell

Can someone please tell me why it's so difficult to get a child started with a sippy cup? And why are there 50 million kinds and the ones I purchase, my daughter doesn't like???? I've heard a lot about the Avent sippy cup, but I haven't tried it yet. Anyone have any good suggestions?

Piglet and I had a "girls night" last night. Hubby worked until 7:30, so Piglet and I watched my soap and did our nails....well, I watched my soap and I did my nails. Then she gnawed on some animal crackers for awhile and we ate our dinner. She got a bath. She was filthy with dried animal cracker all over her. I kept her up until Hubby got home so he could see her. He played with her for a little bit and then I put her in bed. She was almost asleep when I laid her down and wouldn't you know she'd get up and start playing right after that? I let her play for awhile until she started crying. I let her fuss a bit before getting her, though. I held her until she was almost asleep again and then I laid her down and she rolled over and went to sleep. She sleeps on her stomach all the time now. It freaked me out at first, but then I realized there wasn't much I could do about it.

The dumb dog woke me up around 3am whining. We gate off the hallway so she can't get into either bedroom or the bathroom. She went through a period of peeing or pooping in the bathroom at night. Dumb dog! It was raining outside and she's the biggest scaredy cat, so she was whining. I got up and told her to shut it and then closed our door. Then I couldn't get back to sleep b/c my wisdom teeth were hurting really bad. Yes, I still have mine. My dentist wants to take them out, but I haven't been able to b/c I'm still breastfeeding and not to mention my insurance only covers 50%, so I can't afford it. They usually only hurt me about once every 6 months and only for a day or two. I guess it's b/c they're pushing through. Anyway, they've been bothering me for the last couple of days and it sucks.

In addition to planning our corporate Christmas party, my boss and I are in charge of purchasing gifts for the owners. Every year, money is collected from the employees and gifts for the owners are purchased. Sometimes it's a collective gift, like the curio cabinet they got last year to display our awards, and sometimes it's individual gifts like a watch or clock, etc. Anyway, we're trying to figure out what to do for them this year. We want to top every other gift in the past, but it's hard to buy for 4 very different owners...one being a woman. What do you get for the people who have everything?

Well, that's all I've got for now. Speedy out!

We went through many sippy cups. I have no idea what to tell you. If one wouldn't work, we'd go through another one. We should have had stock in the baby department! Good luck with that!

Good luck finding gifts. We used to collect money for the principals....one girl and two guys....they're so hard to shop for!!!

Lots of Love!

With Joe I used the sport-type cups with the straw...hang on a sec, opening new window to make sure I got it right... ah, there it is. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4631104
Obviously there are other types than Dora. I started Joe with those until he got used to holding the cup the "right way" and then went to regular sippy cups. And even then I didn't have much luck until he decided to give up his bottle completely (at 11 months).
